1. Your school, where it all starts

   A written application to the principal, with your affidavit and proofs. 2. The principal's forwarding

   The school countersigns and pushes the case into the board's system; the portal credentials for corrections sit with the principal. A school that sits on files is the single most common stall, and a polite written reminder citing the Janhit Guarantee Act's service timelines is the honest lever.

3. The DIOS

   The District Inspector of Schools verifies and countersigns, including on the TC. This desk exists in every UP district, and files that arrive complete cross it without drama.

4. The UPMSP regional office

   Prayagraj, Varanasi, Meerut, Bareilly or Gorakhpur, by your district. The flawed original marksheet is surrendered here against receipt, and the corrected or modified document issues, commonly quoted at around 30 working days for a clean file.

The Honest Limits: the 3-Year DOB Wall and the Limit-Over Route

Two limits define what is possible, and pretending otherwise wastes years:

• Date of birth: a hard 3-year window from passing high school. Inside it, the correction runs on the birth certificate's evidence. Outside it, online applications bounce automatically, and the remaining paths are the board's discretionary offline scrutiny with overwhelming proof, or a court order. No gazette changes a DOB at any age.
• "Correction limit over" on names: the auto-reply that breaks people who apply online again and again. The honest answer: the standing route for old and limit-crossed cases is the modified certificate-cum-marksheet under the Janhit services, which trades on file strength: register extracts, DIOS countersignatures, the surrendered original and, for real name changes, the gazette. Weak files hear "limit over"; strong files get documents issued.

CBSE Students in UP

5. Courier to the Department of Publication, Delhi

   Civil Lines receives affidavit, newspapers, proforma, CD, printout, ID, address proof, photos and receipt from any UP district by post; no student needs to travel.

6. Publish, download, and take it to the Board

   25 to 45 days to Part IV on egazette.gov.in, free download, and the notification then heads the school-and-DIOS application, or the university’s, as the legal spine of the change.

Gazette Fees, Time and the File

The gazette file itself needs: the notarised affidavit, both complete original newspapers, the typed proforma signed by the applicant and two witnesses, the CD with its signed printout, photo ID, address proof, recent photographs and the BharatKosh receipt.
