Quick answer: Read the awarding body on your degree before doing anything. Colleges here are affiliated to AKTU in Lucknow, CCS University in Meerut or a Delhi university, while private universities such as those in Knowledge Park award their own degrees through their own registrars. Each is a separate authority with a separate process. For births, Greater Noida sits in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which has no Nagar Nigam, and the gazette works as it does statewide.
Everywhere else on this site the question is which office in your city. Here the question is which city, and the answer is usually not this one.

Four Possible Answers
The most common wasted effort here is a student contacting their college's administrative office, which then explains that it does not hold the record either.
The Reverse of Agra
| Agra division | Greater Noida |
|---|---|
| Many colleges, one university | Many colleges, many universities |
| Records converge on one city | Records radiate out to several |
| The answer is always Agra | The answer is never the same twice |
| Find the university once | Find it per person |
The Agra version is on our Agra page and the Aligarh version on our Aligarh page.
Private Universities Award Their Own
- Several universities here were established by state legislation and hold degree-granting authority in their own right.
- Which means no affiliating body sits above them for this purpose; the university itself is the end of the chain.
- Each has its own registrar, form, fee and timeline, and none of them is obliged to match another.
- So there is no general procedure to describe, and any page claiming otherwise is guessing.
- Write to the registrar of your own university and ask, which is a short email and the only reliable route.
We say the same about AMU on our Aligarh page, for the same reason: a university's internal process belongs to the university, and inventing detail about it would not help anybody.
When the University Is in Another State
The same state-line principle, for birth records rather than degrees, is on our Ghaziabad page.
And Your School Was Somewhere Else Again
Most students here came from elsewhere
Which means the Class 10 record is in a home district or a different state entirely.
That record is the spelling authority
So the degree correction will be measured against it wherever it sits.
Fix it first if it is wrong
Because correcting the degree to match a wrong marksheet solves nothing.
Then Aadhaar
Since verification teams compare the two before anything else.
Then the awarding university
With the gazette if the name genuinely changed.
Then the employer or verification agency
Which is usually what started this.
A student in Knowledge Park might therefore be dealing with a school board in Bihar, a university in Lucknow and an employer in Bengaluru, all at once. Writing that list down is the first useful step.
What Is Not Local At All
- The Central Gazette, one Delhi office, reached by post from here exactly as from anywhere.
- The affidavit, same wording, any notary, and being a student changes nothing about it.
- The fee, Rs 1,100 for an adult.
- The timeline, roughly 25 to 45 days, which matters if a joining date is fixed.
- Aadhaar, PAN, bank and passport, all national.
That last point deserves emphasis for anybody with a placement offer: publication takes weeks and cannot be shortened, so start before the offer letter rather than after it.
Central Gazette: the Complete Process and File Format
Our core service: the part every awarding body will accept, prepared from our Lucknow chamber.
Stage 1: The affidavit
Two things here are written for this city specifically: both addresses, because almost nobody here is from here, and the awarding body named separately from the college, because in Greater Noida those are genuinely two different institutions in two different places.
Stage 2: The Public Notice, in two copies
Each witness gives signature, full name and address, and both sign both copies. Hostel-mates and classmates are entirely acceptable; witnesses do not need to be family or local.
Stage 3: The CD and CD-Certificate
Stage 4: Newspapers, fee, covering letter and dispatch
Publish in two newspapers and buy six copies
A Hindi daily and an English paper covering this area, complete original pages.
Pay Rs 1,100 on BharatKosh
Online, with two receipts printed.
Write the covering letter
To The Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, with a number that will be answered after you graduate.
Assemble, check and photocopy
A full copy set kept somewhere permanent, not a hostel room.
Courier or deliver it
Delhi is close, which shortens the journey but not the wait.
Then Aadhaar, then the awarding university
In that order.
Do It in Your Final Year, Not After
Almost nobody does this, because a name mismatch causes no trouble at all until the day it causes a great deal.
Gazette Fees, Time and the File
| Adult gazette fee | Rs 1,100 |
| Minor gazette fee | Rs 1,700 |
| University charges | As set by each university |
| Newspapers | A few hundred rupees per paper |
| Affidavit | Rs 100 to 500 including stamp paper and notary |
| Timeline | Roughly 25 to 45 days for the gazette |
| Our service | Basic from Rs 999, Complete from Rs 1,999, quoted separately |
The envelope in one line: covering letter with your phone and email, affidavit (notarised), Public Notice typed in two copies with two witnesses on each, CD in MS-Word format with the signed CD-Certificate, both complete newspaper pages, photo identity proof, address proof, photographs and the BharatKosh receipt.
Before You Start: Check These
- Which university awarded your degree, as printed on it?
- Is that university in Uttar Pradesh, or another state?
- Where is your Class 10 record, and is it correct?
- Is there a joining date to work backwards from?
After the Gazette: What Updates Next
Aadhaar, then PAN, then the awarding university, then the employer or verification agency. Keep the gazette and newspapers with your family papers rather than in a hostel or a rented room, because you will need them again years later and in another city.
What Other Websites Get Wrong
- Wrong: contact your college. Right: the awarding university holds the record, and it is usually elsewhere.
- Wrong: one process for Greater Noida colleges. Right: four different awarding bodies, four different processes.
- Wrong: a private university follows the state route. Right: it awards its own degrees and sets its own procedure.
- Wrong: your UP address makes a Delhi university a UP matter. Right: the record sits with the university.
- Wrong: sort it out when a job needs it. Right: the cheapest time is a quiet month in your final year.

Key Terms on This Page
Plain definitions for the words that come up at the counter:
- Notary Public
- An officer who attests that a document was signed in front of them. They verify the signature, not the facts written above it.
- Affidavit
- A statement you swear is true, signed before a notary on stamp paper. The notary confirms you signed it, not that the contents are true.
- Name correction
- Fixing a name that was written wrongly by somebody else. Lighter than a change, because an older document already shows the right version.
- Department of Publication
- The office at Civil Line, Delhi that receives name change files and publishes the notification.
- Name change
- Adopting a different name from the one your documents correctly record. This is the case that usually needs publication.

Why We Ask to See the Degree, Not the College Name
Students tell us the name of their institute and expect that to be enough. In this city it never is, because two people from the same building can have degrees held by two different universities in two different cities. So we ask for the certificate itself, read the awarding body off it, and only then say anything useful. If that body turns out to be a private university or one across the state line, we say plainly which part is not ours. The rest, including the gazette that every one of them will accept, we handle. Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, reads the certificate before advising.
- We read the awarding body off the degree: because the college name does not settle it.
- We check the Class 10 record first: wherever in India it sits.
- We say when an authority is not ours to approach: private or out of state.
- We work to joining dates: which do not move.

Name Change in Greater Noida: FAQs
My college is in Greater Noida. Is my degree held here?
Usually not. Colleges here are affiliated to universities in Lucknow, Meerut or Delhi, while private universities award their own.
How do I find out which?
The awarding body is printed on the degree. Nobody can tell you without seeing it.
Why does the college not hold it?
Colleges teach; universities examine, keep enrolment registers and award degrees.
My university is a private one.
Then it awards its own degrees and sets its own procedure, so write to its registrar and ask. There is no general process to describe.
My university is in Delhi.
Then that part of the work is in Delhi. We are a UP office and say so, though the gazette and everything national we can handle.
My school was in another state.
That record follows that state's arrangements, and it is the spelling authority your degree correction will be measured against.
Which should I fix first?
The Class 10 record, then Aadhaar, then the degree. Correcting a degree to match a wrong marksheet solves nothing.
I have a joining date coming up.
Work backwards. The gazette runs roughly 25 to 45 days and cannot be shortened, so start before the offer letter rather than after it.
When is the best time to sort this out?
A quiet month in your final year, while you are still enrolled and near the campus and nobody is waiting on you.
Can classmates be my witnesses?
Yes. Witnesses do not need to be family or local; two people who will sign both copies is all that is needed.
Who registers births in this district?
Gautam Buddh Nagar has no Nagar Nigam, and births are handled through the arrangements set out for the district.
Where should I keep the gazette afterwards?
With your family papers rather than in a hostel or rented room, because you will need it again years later in another city.

The Short Version
This is an education city, and it produces a problem nowhere else has quite as sharply: you studied here, but your degree is almost certainly held somewhere else, and there are four different somewheres. A technical university in Lucknow affiliates a great many of the engineering and management colleges here. A university in Meerut affiliates others. Some colleges are affiliated across the state boundary to a university in Delhi. And the private universities in Knowledge Park were established by their own state legislation, hold degree-granting authority in their own right, and each has its own registrar, form and timeline. Four authorities, four processes, one of them in a different state, and no way at all to guess which is yours. Two people from the same lecture hall can need two different cities. The certificate names the awarding body; read it before you do anything else.
