Quick answer: If you were born elsewhere, the birth record is corrected there, not here, and no Noida office can touch it. If the record genuinely was made in Gautam Buddh Nagar, births and deaths go through the CMO office at Sector 38, Noida, or Alpha-1 in Greater Noida, and through Nagar Panchayats and Palikas in the rural parts. Noida has no Nagar Nigam, which is why searching for one leads nowhere. The gazette route is the same as everywhere in the state.
Being sent from one office to another is the standard Noida experience with this, and it is not incompetence. It is what happens when a city grows out of a development authority rather than a municipality.
At a Glance
| District | Gautam Buddh Nagar |
| Noida is | A development authority, not a municipality |
| Nagar Nigam | There is not one |

Key Takeaways

Your Records Are Somewhere Else
This is the single most useful thing to understand before making any trip. Correcting a Ballia birth certificate is a Ballia matter even if you have lived in Sector 62 for a decade.
Why There Is No Nagar Nigam
- Noida stands for New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, which is what it is: an authority, not a municipal corporation.
- Greater Noida has its own authority at Knowledge Park, again a development body rather than a municipality.
- The district is Gautam Buddh Nagar, which is the administrative unit, with the SDM offices and the collectorate.
- Rural areas within the district have Nagar Panchayats and Palikas, which do behave like ordinary local bodies.
- So a search for "Noida Nagar Nigam" finds nothing because there is nothing to find.
Why You Get Sent in Circles
| Where people go | What they are told |
|---|---|
| Noida Authority office | Not our department |
| A Tehsil office | Try the block |
| The block office | That area is under the authority |
| Back to the authority | Try the CMO office |
| A Jan Seva Kendra | Depends which body registered it |
Ten minutes looking for the original document saves several trips, because the answer is printed on it.
If You Came From Another State
- Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand records are common among Noida residents and are corrected under those states' arrangements.
- We are an Uttar Pradesh office and cannot handle a Bihar birth certificate or a Bengal board marksheet, and saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise.
- The Central Gazette is national, so that part we can do for anybody, from anywhere.
- And Aadhaar, PAN, bank and passport are national too, so those are unaffected by which state you came from.
- Which usually leaves one or two items that genuinely need a home-state route.
That is worth knowing before you engage anybody, ourselves included. A firm promising to fix a Bihar board record from Noida is worth a second question.
What You Can Do From Noida
The whole gazette, start to finish
Affidavit, newspapers, CD, payment and courier, all from here, because it is a national postal process.
Aadhaar, at a local centre
Book rather than walk in, and the Noida address is the current one to use.
PAN, bank, insurance and demat
All handled centrally rather than at any district counter.
Passport, through the local arrangements
Check the portal for the office assigned to Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The employer and provident fund records
Which is where most Noida mismatches actually surface.
What you cannot do here
Correct a record made in another district or state, which needs that district.
Which is most of the list. The part that needs your home district is usually the birth certificate and the board marksheet, and often only one of them.
When It Surfaces at Work
The bridging affidavit is covered on our two names page, and it resolves far more of these than a full name change ever does.
Central Gazette: the Complete Process and File Format
Our core service: this part is national, so it runs identically from Noida, and papers reach us by photograph and courier.
Stage 1: The affidavit
Give both addresses. In a migrant city the present address and the permanent one are rarely the same, and naming the board that issued your marksheet does most of the work of explaining which district holds your older records.
Stage 2: The Public Notice, in two copies
Each witness gives signature, full name and address, and both sign both copies. Colleagues and neighbours in Noida are entirely acceptable; witnesses do not need to be family.
Stage 3: The CD and CD-Certificate
Stage 4: Newspapers, fee, covering letter and dispatch
Publish in two newspapers and buy six copies
A Hindi daily and an English paper covering Noida, complete original pages.
Pay Rs 1,100 on BharatKosh
With the function head, PAO and DDO checked and two receipts printed.
Write the covering letter
To The Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, with your mobile number and email.
Assemble, check and photocopy
A full copy set kept at home.
Courier or deliver it
Delhi is next door, which is the one genuine geographic advantage Noida has here.
Then Aadhaar, then everything else
Including the employer records if that is where this started.
Find the Certificate Before You Find an Office
People in Noida are used to solving problems by going somewhere. This is a problem solved by finding a piece of paper, and the paper is usually in a trunk in another district.
Gazette Fees, Time and the File
| Adult gazette fee | Rs 1,100 |
| Minor gazette fee | Rs 1,700 |
| Newspapers | A few hundred rupees per paper |
| Affidavit | Rs 100 to 500 including stamp paper and notary |
| Delivery to Delhi | Minimal, given the distance |
| Timeline | Roughly 25 to 45 days |
| Our service | Basic from Rs 999, Complete from Rs 1,999, quoted separately |
The envelope in one line: covering letter with your phone and email, affidavit (notarised), Public Notice typed in two copies with two witnesses on each, CD in MS-Word format with the signed CD-Certificate, both complete newspaper pages, photo identity proof, address proof, photographs and the BharatKosh receipt.
Before You Start: Check These
- Which district or state issued the record you need corrected?
- Have you found the original certificate rather than searching for an office?
- Is Aadhaar correct, with the Noida address?
- Is this actually a work deadline rather than a government one?
After the Gazette: What Updates Next
Aadhaar, then PAN, then the bank, then your employer and provident fund records. The home-district items, usually a birth certificate or a board marksheet, run on their own track and are worth starting early because they take longest.
What Other Websites Get Wrong
- Wrong: visit Noida Nagar Nigam. Right: there is not one; Noida is a development authority.
- Wrong: the district is Noida. Right: the district is Gautam Buddh Nagar.
- Wrong: correct your birth record where you live. Right: it is corrected where it was registered.
- Wrong: a UP office can fix a Bihar record. Right: other states have their own routes, and anybody promising otherwise deserves a second question.
- Wrong: keep visiting offices until one helps. Right: find the original certificate; it names the right one.
Areas We Serve in Uttar Pradesh
For Noida residents the district that matters is usually the one they came from. Across all 75, most often these:
| Purvanchal and eastern UP | Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Ballia, Deoria, Mirzapur, Basti, Ghazipur, Mau, Sonbhadra |
| Western UP and NCR | Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Aligarh, Mathura, Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Hapur, Firozabad |
| Rohilkhand and Bundelkhand | Bareilly, Moradabad, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Budaun, Pilibhit, Bijnor, Amroha, Jhansi, Banda, Mahoba, Chitrakoot |
| Awadh and central UP | Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Raebareli, Sitapur, Hardoi, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Amethi, Bahraich |
The eastern districts appear most in Noida enquiries, because that is where a great many residents grew up and where their birth records and board marksheets still sit. Within Gautam Buddh Nagar we work across the Noida sectors, Greater Noida, Dadri and the Nagar Panchayat areas. Our chamber is at Chamber No. 19, Sadar Tehsil, Sector 5, Gomti Nagar Vistar, Lucknow 226010, and the wider picture is on our districts page. Call 9540003316 or WhatsApp 9540005002.
Key Terms on This Page
Plain definitions for the words that come up at the counter:
- Aadhaar Seva Kendra
- A government-run centre where Aadhaar details are updated in person, with an appointment.
- Notary Public
- An officer who attests that a document was signed in front of them. They verify the signature, not the facts written above it.
- Affidavit
- A statement you swear is true, signed before a notary on stamp paper. The notary confirms you signed it, not that the contents are true.
- Name correction
- Fixing a name that was written wrongly by somebody else. Lighter than a change, because an older document already shows the right version.
- Department of Publication
- The office at Civil Line, Delhi that receives name change files and publishes the notification.
- Name change
- Adopting a different name from the one your documents correctly record. This is the case that usually needs publication.

Why We Ask Where You Are From
Almost every Noida enquiry starts with somebody describing which offices they have already visited. We ask a different question: which district issued the paper that is wrong. Usually the answer is somewhere in eastern Uttar Pradesh, or another state entirely, and everything they have been doing locally was never going to work. Then we split the job in two: the national part, which is most of it and which we handle, and the home-district part, which needs its own route. Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, would rather say plainly which half we can do.
- We ask which district issued it: not which offices you visited.
- We split national from home district: so nothing is wasted.
- We say when a record is outside Uttar Pradesh: rather than taking the work anyway.
- We work by photograph and courier: nobody travels for this.

Name Change in Noida: FAQs
Where is Noida Nagar Nigam?
There is not one. Noida stands for New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, which is a development body rather than a municipal corporation.
Which district am I in?
Gautam Buddh Nagar. Noida is a city within it, not a district of its own.
Who registers births here then?
Per the district administration, the CMO office at Sector 38 in Noida and Alpha-1 in Greater Noida, plus Nagar Panchayats and Palikas in the rural parts.
Why does every office say it is not theirs?
Because three kinds of local body overlap in this district, and whichever one registered the event holds the record. If nobody knows which, everybody is correctly saying it is not theirs.
How do I break that loop?
Find the original certificate. It names the body that issued it, which is the answer you were going to spend three trips discovering.
I was born in another district. Where do I go?
To that district. No office in Gautam Buddh Nagar can correct a record it never made.
I am from Bihar or West Bengal.
Those records follow their own state's arrangements. We are an Uttar Pradesh office and cannot handle them, though the gazette and all national documents we can.
What can I do entirely from Noida?
The whole gazette, Aadhaar, PAN, bank, insurance, demat and passport. That is most of the list.
Is being close to Delhi an advantage?
A small one. The gazette file has a shorter journey, though the process and the wait are identical.
My employer flagged a name mismatch.
The commonest trigger here. Get Aadhaar and the marksheet to agree, then hand over an affidavit naming both spellings.
Will HR accept an affidavit?
Most verification teams do, because they see this constantly.
Do I need to travel to Lucknow to use your office?
No. Photographs and courier are how almost all of this works.

The Short Version
Two facts explain almost everything about doing this in Noida. The first is that hardly anybody in Noida was born in Noida: it is a young city built for people who came from somewhere else, so the older half of a typical resident's identity, the birth registration and the board marksheet, sits in a home district or another state entirely, and no office in Gautam Buddh Nagar can correct a record it never made. The second is that this city has no Nagar Nigam, because Noida is a development authority rather than a municipality, and three kinds of local body overlap inside one district. That is why people get passed between the authority, a Tehsil, a block office and a Jan Seva Kendra, each correctly saying it is not theirs. The way out is not persistence but paperwork: find the original certificate, read which body issued it, and go to that one. Everything national, which is most of this, can be done from Noida without going anywhere.
