The Visa in the Old Passport

- Countries handle this differently: some transfer, some re-endorse, some want a fresh application.

The Short Version
One fact reshapes this whole subject for anybody living abroad. For a resident, a passport is one document among many and Aadhaar comes first. For you, the passport is the identity itself: the visa is in it, the residence permit is tied to it, the bank opened on it and the employer verified it. So the usual order reverses, and the first question is not which Indian document to start with but what your country of residence does when a passport name changes, because a reissued passport is a new booklet and the visa does not move into it by itself.
