So a marriage touches all three, and a form that only changes the name leaves an entry that is right about you and wrong about where you live.
The Field That Is Your Choice
- The roll needs a relative named, to tell one person from another in the same area.
- Which relative is not settled by any rule you must follow, and both are ordinary on Indian rolls.
- Many women change it to a husband's name after marriage, which is the common pattern and entirely usual.
- Many keep the father's name, which is equally acceptable and raises no problem at a booth.
- Some prefer to leave it as it stands simply because changing it means another application.

Checking the Old Constituency
- Search the roll in your parents' district, under your maiden name, before assuming the old entry is gone.
- Search the new district too, under the married name, in case somebody already enrolled you there.
- If both show an entry, deal with that first, since a spelling correction on top leaves you with two neat entries.
- Deletion of the old one is a separate form, and doing it yourself promptly is much better than it being found.
- Then proceed with the shift or correction, once there is only one of you.
This takes five minutes and it is the most useful thing on this page. Most families have never checked, because it does not occur to anybody that a helpful relative created a problem.
