The Death Certificate Has a Name Too
- Somebody supplied that name at the registration, usually a family member, in the days immediately after the death.
- It was given from memory, at the worst possible moment, and nobody was thinking about spelling.
- So a fresh version of the name can enter the file right there, making three where there were two.
- Check it against the pension or bank record the day you collect it, while a correction is still simple.
- And take several certified copies at once, because every office that asks will keep one and returning later is another journey.
