OBC Certificate After Marriage for Women in Uttar Pradesh

You have married and you are applying under OBC reservation, and you are unsure what your certificate should now say. One half of this is settled: your community follows birth and marriage does not change it. The other half is not so simple. The non-creamy layer test looks at family circumstances, and after marriage the question of whose circumstances count is exactly the sort of thing to ask the issuing office directly rather than assume from any website.

Quick answer: Your community is unchanged, so no fresh caste claim is needed. What you may need is the name updated and, if the certificate is old, a fresh application since the non-creamy layer part has to be current. On whose family circumstances the non-creamy layer test looks at after marriage, ask the Tehsil and the recruiting body directly and get the answer in writing. That question has been treated differently in different places, and it is not one to settle from a webpage.

We would rather say that plainly than give you a confident rule that turns out not to apply to your recruiter. Everything else on this page is settled ground; that one question genuinely is not, and knowing which is which is the useful part.

The Settled Half and the Open Half

SETTLED your community follows birth marriage does not change it you do not acquire your husband's your father's name stays on the certificate as the link OPEN the non-creamy layer test looks at family circumstances after marriage, WHOSE? That second question is genuinely treated differently in different places, and it depends on the certificate format and the body asking for it. So: settled half from this page. Open half from the office.

The settled half is set out in full on our caste certificate after marriage page, including why your father's name stays and why you should keep the old certificate. None of that is repeated here.

The Question to Ask

  1. Ask the Tehsil that issues the certificate

Plainly: for a married woman applying now, whose family details go on the non-creamy layer part.

  2. Ask the recruiting body separately

Because the office issuing a certificate and the body accepting it can have different expectations.

  3. Point at the specific notice

Quote the post and the reservation clause, so the answer applies to your case rather than in general.

  4. Ask which format they want

Central or State, since that changes the form as our non-creamy layer page explains.

  5. Ask how recent it must be

The same page covers why this matters more than people expect.

  6. Then apply once, correctly

Rather than twice, which is the usual cost of guessing.

Why Get It in Writing

This is the single most useful thing on this page. A candidate who can show what they asked, whom they asked, and what they were told is in a completely different position from one explaining a decision from memory.

Updating the Name

FieldWhat happens after marriage
Your nameUpdate it to match Aadhaar and your other documents
Your father's nameStays; it links the community claim to your birth family
Your communityUnchanged
Your addressMay change to your marital home
Family details for the testThe open question; ask

Where your marksheet still carries your maiden name, that is normal and not a problem to fix. Our two names page covers the affidavit that connects the two versions at a verification.

Fresh or Corrected

Same test as any OBC certificate: recent certificate, name wrong -> correction old certificate, anything wrong -> fresh application After marriage the answer leans further towards FRESH, because: your name has changed your address may have changed the family details may need restating and the date probably needs refreshing anyway Four reasons pointing one way. A correction would address one of them.

Which makes this simpler than it sounds. In most post-marriage cases a fresh application in the right format, with the question above answered in writing, does everything at once.

Declare What Is True

We say this directly because this is the one place on this subject where the temptation exists and the consequences are real. Ask the question, take the answer, and state your circumstances as they are.

Central Gazette: the Complete Process and File Format

Our core service: an OBC certificate after marriage needs no publication. Where a name change genuinely requires one, this is the route from Lucknow.

Stage 1: The affidavit

AFFIDAVIT (on non-judicial stamp paper, notarised) I, ____________________ , daughter of ____________________ , wife of ____________________ , R/o ____________________________________________ , do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:- 1- That my maiden name was ____________________ and the same is recorded in my High School marksheet, Roll No. ____________________ , and in OBC certificate number ____________________ . 2- That consequent upon my marriage solemnised on __-__-____ , I have changed my name from ____________________ to ____________________ and I shall hereafter be known as ____________________ for all purposes. 3- That both the said names are the name of one and the same person, that is, myself. 4- That my father's name and my community as recorded therein remain unchanged. 5- That it is my true and correct statement. DEPONENT VERIFICATION:- Verified at ____________ on this __-__-20__ that the contents of the above Affidavit are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief. DEPONENT

Point four does real work at a verification. It states that only your own name has changed, which is exactly the reassurance an officer looking at a maiden-name marksheet needs.

Stage 2: The Public Notice, in two copies

PUBLIC NOTICE (TWO identical typed copies, each signed and witnessed) It is for general information that I, ____________________ , D/O ____________________ , W/O ____________________ , R/o ______________________________________________ , declare that I have changed my name from ____________________ (full maiden name) to ____________________ (full married name) and I shall hereafter be known as ____________________ for all purposes. It is certified that I have complied with other legal requirements in this connection. ____________________ Signature of Applicant WITNESS NO. 1 Signature :- ____________________ Full Name :- ____________________ Address :- ____________________ WITNESS NO. 2 Signature :- ____________________ Full Name :- ____________________ Address :- ____________________

Each witness gives signature, full name and address, and both sign both copies at one sitting.

Stage 3: The CD and CD-Certificate

CD-CERTIFICATE I, ____________________ , W/O ____________________ , R/o ____________________________________________________ , do hereby declare:- 1- That the matter in CD and hard copy is the same and I am responsible for any mismatch. 2- That I am responsible for the quality of CD. 3- That the CD is in MS-Word Format. 4- That the above statement is true and correct. Signature of Applicant ____________________ R/o ____________________

Stage 4: Newspapers, fee, covering letter and dispatch

  1. Publish in two newspapers and buy four copies

One Hindi daily of your district and one English paper, complete original pages.

  2. Pay Rs 1,100 on BharatKosh

With the function head, PAO and DDO checked and two receipts printed.

  3. Write the covering letter

To The Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, with your mobile number and email.

  4. Assemble, check and photocopy

Including a marriage certificate copy where you have one.

  5. Courier it, tracked

One to three days from most UP districts.

  6. Then Aadhaar, then a fresh certificate

With the open question already answered in writing.

Two Questions, One Email Each

Write to the Tehsil: "I am a married woman applying for an OBC non-creamy layer certificate. Please confirm whose family details are required on the form in my case." Write to the recruiter: "Advertisement No. ______ , post ______ . Please confirm the OBC-NCL certificate format and recency required, and the position for married women candidates." Two emails. Keep both replies. That is a completely different position at a verification from remembering what somebody said at a counter last spring.

If neither replies in writing, ask at the counter and write down the date, the office and the name of the person who answered. Imperfect, and far better than nothing.

Gazette Fees, Time and the File

Before You Apply: Check These

After the Gazette: What Updates Next

Aadhaar first, then the certificate, then anything quoting it. Keep the written answers, the old certificate, the marriage certificate and the affidavit together. Between them they explain your maiden name, your married name, your birth family and what you were told to declare.

What Other Websites Get Wrong

Areas We Serve in Uttar Pradesh

Ask the Tehsil that will issue the certificate, which follows your family record rather than your new address. Across all 75 districts, most often these:

Because the open question is answered locally, two women in neighbouring districts can be told different things, which is exactly why a written reply matters more here than almost anywhere else on this subject. Key Terms on This Page

Plain definitions for the words that come up at the counter:

Non-Creamy Layer
The income-based test that decides whether an OBC certificate can be used for reservation benefits.
e-District
The Uttar Pradesh portal used for caste, income, domicile and similar certificates.
Affidavit
A statement you swear is true, signed before a notary on stamp paper. The notary confirms you signed it, not that the contents are true.
Department of Publication
The office at Civil Line, Delhi that receives name change files and publishes the notification.
Name correction
Fixing a name that was written wrongly by somebody else. Lighter than a change, because an older document already shows the right version.
Name change
Adopting a different name from the one your documents correctly record. This is the case that usually needs publication.

Whichever counter you reach next, there is a guide for it here:

Why We Will Not Give You a Rule Here

It would be easy to state one confidently and it would help nobody if your recruiter reads it differently. What we can do is tell you exactly which part is settled, which part is not, who to ask, how to phrase it, and why the reply matters more than the question. Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, would rather send a client to the right office than sound certain.

OBC Certificate After Marriage: FAQs

Does my community change when I marry?

No. It follows birth, you do not acquire your husband's, and your father's name stays on the certificate as the link.

What is the part that is not settled?

Whose family circumstances the non-creamy layer test looks at after marriage. That has been treated differently in different places and depends on the format and the body asking.

Why will this page not just tell me?

Because a confident rule that your recruiter reads differently would cost you an application. Asking the office takes a day and settles it for your case.

Who should I ask?

Both the Tehsil that issues the certificate and the recruiting body, since they can have different expectations.

How should I phrase it?

Name the advertisement number and post, and ask for the required format, the recency, and the position for married women candidates.

Why get the answer in writing?

Because the same question is asked again at verification, and a documented answer puts you in a completely different position from remembering a counter conversation.

What if nobody replies in writing?

Ask at the counter and note the date, the office and who answered. Imperfect, and much better than nothing.

Should I correct the old certificate or apply fresh?

Usually fresh. Your name has changed, your address may have, the family details may need restating and the date probably needs refreshing anyway.

My marksheet still has my maiden name.

That is normal and not something to fix. An affidavit stating both names are one person connects them at a verification.

Do I need a gazette?

No. Nothing here involves publication.

Can somebody arrange a favourable declaration for me?

Anybody offering that is offering you a risk rather than a service. A false declaration on a reservation form is a serious matter.

What should I keep afterwards?

The written answers, the old certificate, the marriage certificate and the affidavit, together in one folder.

Official Sources

Facts here are checked against these sources and our own casework. On whose family circumstances the non-creamy layer test considers after marriage, practice has differed and this page deliberately does not state a rule: confirm with the issuing office and the recruiting body, in writing, before applying.

About the founder: Founded by Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, with 5+ years of direct filing experience with the Department of Publication. Every process detail here comes from files we have actually prepared and followed through to publication, not from copied web content.

The Short Version

This document has a settled half and an open half, and the useful thing is knowing which is which. Settled: your community follows birth, marriage does not change it, you do not acquire your husband's, and your father's name stays on the certificate because it is what links the claim to your birth family. Open: the non-creamy layer part tests family circumstances, and after marriage the question of whose circumstances count has been treated differently in different places. We are not going to give you a rule on that, because a confident one your recruiter reads differently would cost you an application. Ask the Tehsil and ask the recruiting body, naming the advertisement number, and get both answers in writing to keep with the certificate. Then apply once, in the right format, declaring your circumstances exactly as they are.

Not Sure What to Declare?

This is one to ask the Tehsil and the recruiter before applying. We can help you frame the question.
